U.S. PIRG (Public Interest Research Group) is hiring talented and passionate college graduates for campus organizing positions around the country.
U.S. PIRG is a federation of nonprofit groups, based in states across the country, and we tackle issues ranging from the environment to energy to health care reform to hunger and homelessness. PIRG campus organizers recruit college students, faculty and community members to investigate problems and build support for solutions. PIRG organizers, and the volunteers they recruit and train, research issues, build coalitions, work with the media, educate the public, and generate citizen support on issues ranging from poverty to environmental protection. A typical day might include:
We have campus organizing positions in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, Washington and Wisconsin. Salary & Benefits: Recent college graduates earn $23,750 in their first year on staff. In addition, full-time staff can opt into our state health care coverage, are eligible for paid sick and vacation days, and can apply for our college loan assistance program. Our staff accrues two weeks of vacation by the end of their first year and three weeks by the end of their second year. Staff is also eligible to join our 401(k) program in their second year. The state PIRGs’ staff training combines classroom study with hands-on field work. Additional Qualifications: We’re looking for smart, motivated individuals with initiative and a strong commitment to protecting the public interest. We value experience with campus groups or student government, academic achievement, and outstanding verbal, writing and leadership skills.
